The Furuno DFF1-UHD Chirp sounder is now shipping in the USA.

According to one of the fish-finder guru’s on THT – The Furuno DFF1-UHD Chirp unit is now shipping in the USA. We look forward to hearing more about that compared to Simrad, Raymarine & Garmin Chirp sounders.

It was about time as the Furuno crowd was getting impatient

Simrad NSS GOOF

It seems like Simrad USA (to my knowledge so far only USA) have started killing their reputation. Suddenly without warning – they have started taking things out of the Simrad NSS boxes – without telling the customers, modifying manuals or updating shipping boxes.

Garmin GPSMAP 741xs unboxing & first looks

From the announcement in November 2012 – until delivery in mid June 2013 -finally I got

Nobeltec TimeZero for iPad released with PhotoFusion support

The PC Navigation specialists – Nobeltec – has released their iPad Navigation application – Nobletec TimeZero.

Compared to Navionics, Jeppesen Plan2Nav and Garmin BlueChart Mobile – the NobleTech TimeZero uses raster charts – where the others use vector charts. It means the charts look more polished – and more like paper charts. But it also means when you rotate the charts or use 3D projection – numbers and text will not be “the right way” up for you to read them.

New Maretron SMS100 SMS/Text message NMEA 2000 Gateway

I almost overlooked this – but Maretron has released the Maretron SMS100 SMS/Mobile text Gateway & alarm module.

With the SMS100 installed – and paired with a Maretron Display – you can configure alarms for data on the NMEA 2000 network. The SMS100 can then relay the alarms to your mobile phone via SMS/Text messages.

New Garmin BlueChart Mobile v1.3 app with quatix and GPSMAP 8000 series support

Garmin has just (finally) released a new version of the iDevice (iPad/iPhone) BlueChart Mobile. The new version is 1.3

The new stuff:

Garmin quatix watch support – you can transfer routes, waypoints and tracks – including the virtual staring line for the quatix watch. Garmin – better late than never….. but that was about time. Now lets see if Garmin Connect support is coming any time soon…..

GPSMAP 8000 series support –

New grouping function – create lists where you can group routes, waypoints, catches and tracks making it easier to organise your data

And finally new vessel icons – to match your ride
