What is the Golden Globe Race?

The GGR is a solo, non-stop sailing race around the world that takes place every four years. It was first held in 1968 and is considered one of the most challenging yacht races in the world. Participants sail without any modern technology, such as GPS or satellite phones, and must rely solely on traditional navigation methods. The race is named after the Golden Globe trophy, which is awarded to the first sailor to complete the race.

Update at 18:10 UTC April 27 2023

No wind and a few miles to go – Kirsten is almost at the finish line.

Just had to post this – it is an amazing feat. Kirsten Neuschäfer have sailed 30319 nautical miles – and got about 2nm to go. There is NO doubt she will win the main race as the next boat is 131 nm behind.

Sadly there is hardly any wind – so the last 2 nm could take a while. You can follow her adventure to the goal line here on GGR’s Youtube
