Victron’s Android GX WiFi Display — the kiosk app that turns an Android 8.0+ phone or tablet into a wireless GX screen — has moved on from the v1.2 reliability release Victron Professional announced at the end of September. As of mid-October the current maintenance tip, announced by Victron staff on the community forum, is v1.4.1. Professional itself still only shows the v1.2 news post; the later builds have been rolling out through the app’s own update channel.

What v1.2 brought (still the big usability step): while the tablet is on a charger, the GX link stays alive with the screen off so live data is there the moment you wake it; better Wi-Fi handling to the GX built-in access point; improved discovery when the GX moves on the network; and fewer permissions so Play Protect is less likely to block QR provisioning.

What followed: v1.3 (5 Oct) fixed multi-GX cycling and an incomplete blank-after-wake fix. v1.4 (15 Oct) finished that blank-wake job and cleared a stuck error screen after recovery. v1.4.1 adds better detection of a page that failed to load, and better recovery from it. Victron describes these as maintenance releases with no new features.

How to update: displays with automatic updates enabled install overnight. To force it, press and hold the lower-left corner of the screen for five seconds, then run the manual update check. Fresh installs still go via the QR code in the Android GX WiFi Display manual (Victron staff say that QR currently pulls v1.4).

Practical takeaway: if your tablet still blanks after wake or cycles between GX units, check you are actually on v1.4.1 rather than sitting on v1.2. Leave it plugged in overnight so the auto-update can land.
